The United States has opposed an increase in India's purchases of cheap Russian oil

India has already bought almost as much oil as it bought in the previous year.

On Monday, the head of the White House will talk to the head of the Indian Narendra Modi's office. This was reported by the Voice of America.

“President Biden will continue to consult on the consequences of Russia's brutal war against Ukraine and mitigate its destabilizing impact on global food supplies and commodity markets,” she said on Sunday. White House Secretary of State Jen Psaki. but do not want to see a “sharp increase” in procurement.

After Russia's invasion of Ukraine and announced Western sanctions against Moscow, India could not resist large discounts on Russian oil and bought at least 13 million barrels of Russian crude oil. India has bought 16 million barrels over the past year.

Biden, who last spoke with Indian Prime Minister Modi in March, said that among the four countries, only India had taken a “not tough enough” position. It will be recalled that India has not imposed sanctions against Russia and is currently the world's third largest importer and consumer of oil. Although India has increased its purchases from the United States in recent decades, Russia has long been the country's largest supplier of defense equipment.
