The UN is preparing for a “significant increase” in the export of Ukrainian grain

Exports may increase to 2-5 million tons per month.

The United Nations, which monitors implementation of the “Istanbul agreement” on the export of Ukrainian grain, expects a “significant increase” in the number of vessels interested in the growth of such exports, and the goal of 2-5 million tons per month “is achievable”. This was stated by the UN interim coordinator at the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul, Frederick Kenny, according to Reuters.

“We expect a significant increase in the number of requests for transportation,” he said.

It is expected the number of ships heading to Ukrainian ports will increase once the grain sale is agreed upon.

“Early next week we will conduct a comprehensive review of procedures to see what needs to be adjusted and improved,” Kenney said.< /p>

According to him, the current priority is to free berths in the three ports covered by the agreement – Odesa, Chornomorsk and Yuzhnoye – so that new ships can enter and load cargo. While there have been no wheat shipments, ships are leaving with corn, soybeans, sunflower oil and meal.

Kenny said ship owners have shown “extreme interest” and that there are several empty ships anchored in Turkey waiting. to organize the sale so that they could go to Ukraine for the cargo.

The UN emphasized that the export agreement is a commercial, not a humanitarian operation. Also, according to him, all ships must pass an inspection in order to dispel Russia's fears that they can transport weapons to Ukraine. 370 thousand tons of agricultural products were exported to seven countries of the world. During this time, 12 ships left our ports.
