The UN General Assembly allowed Zelensky to speak online

Russia cynically insisted on a face-to-face performance.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will make a video address at the summit of the UN General Assembly, during the high-level week, reported the permanent representative of Ukraine to the UN Serhiy Kislytsia.

The organization did not support the protests of Russia, whose representative Vasiliy Nebenzya required an exclusively face-to-face performance. The decision was adopted almost unanimously, only Russia, Belarus, Cuba, Eritrea, Nicaragua, Syria, and North Korea spoke against it. 19 countries abstained.

In making the relevant decision, the UN General Assembly assumes that allowing Zelensky to provide a pre-recorded version of his speech will not set a precedent for future meetings of the High-Level Assembly.

It will be recalled that the opening of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York took place on September 13. Meetings of the high-level week will begin on September 21.
