The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has launched a large-scale cash assistance program with Ukrpochta to help vulnerable displaced persons meet their basic needs. This is stated in a joint official statement of UNHCR and Ukrpochta.

“UNHCR, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, has joined forces with Ukrpochta to launch a cash assistance program to cover, in the first phase, 360,000 displaced persons across Ukraine, providing 2,220 hryvnias per person per month for three months. Families will be able to cash in through the Ukrpochta branch, or use address delivery, ”the statement reads.

The program complements the national social protection and welfare system to support people who have been forced to flee Russian aggression to meet their basic needs, including rental housing, food and hygiene items. This financial assistance is part of the support provided by UNHCR and partners.

Enrollment in the cash assistance program has already begun in Lviv and will take place in other settlements of Ukraine. Currently, UNHCR and its partners Right to Protection and Crimea SOS have registered 1,543 people (720 families), with the first payments scheduled for March 25 and later. The program is designed for internally displaced persons who do not plan to leave the territory of Ukraine.

UNHCR is setting up data collection points for inclusion in Lviv and soon in other cities. For more information on the geographical coverage of the program, see the UNHCR website.

The project is implemented through UNHCR partners in Ukraine: the Right to Protection Charitable Foundation, public organizations CrimeaSOS, NEEKA, Nehemiya.
