The seventh package of EU sanctions: Russia reacted with yet another complaint and accusation against the West

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation initially declared that the “policy of pressure” on Russia was not effective, and then immediately complained that they could not use the SWIFT settlement system.

Russia suffers significantly from the fact that its largest banks have been cut off from the global SWIFT payment network and believes that the restrictions from the West are “illegitimate”. This was stated by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova, reacting to the announcement of the seventh package of EU sanctions.

In her characteristic manner, the politician accused Western countries of deepening the economic and food crisis in the world. She expressed the opinion that with the introduction of new sanctions against Russia, Europe is “driving itself into a dead end.”

“The European Union continues to drive itself into a dead end with enviable tenacity. Against the background of the obvious futility and futility of the long-term policy of pressure on Russia, the harmful consequences of EU sanctions for various segments of the global economy and security, including the EU member states, are becoming more and more obvious,” Zakharova said.

However, she literally immediately added that the “policy of pressure on Russia” is still working and sanctions are hitting the Kremlin quite noticeably. In particular, as regards trade and the working of the banking system.

“The European Union pursues such tasks as limiting the use of funds on accounts in EU banks and beyond, the impossibility of free transit of goods through the territory/water area of EU member states. A number of domestic banks have been disconnected from SWIFT, including Rosselkhozbank, which handles the export of Russian agricultural products. As a result, freight transportation, the provision of financial and insurance services, and logistical chains are disrupted,” Zakharova stated.
