After the start of the war, remittances from migrant workers to Ukraine declined as they were visited by family members who had remained in Ukraine until recently. At the same time, private remittances for humanitarian needs and assistance to the Ukrainian military have grown. This was stated in an exclusive interview with LB.ua by the first deputy head of the National Bank Ekaterina Rozhkova.

“As for the workers: we see that they have taken away their families – and, of course, remittances have fallen. But many have remained, and foreign exchange earnings have not stopped. But we have a new interesting trend – many funds that now work: the same Fund “Come back alive, the Sergei Pritula Foundation and many others receive funds from ordinary people from other countries, friends, and even those who knew nothing about Ukraine before. And now there are many such translations,” she said.

Ekaterina Rozhkova added that these scales are still difficult to assess, but they are quite significant.

“The NBU, for example, collected more than UAH 12 billion in the first two weeks of the war to help the APU. About UAH 3.6 billion of them were funds from abroad in different currencies,” said the first deputy head of the National Bank.
