Влиятельнейший британский продюсер направил письмо в поддержку украинских театров, которые противостоят российской агрессии

Sir Cameron Anthony Mackintosh, who is called one of the world's most influential and successful theater producers, recently sent a letter to Ukraine (to the National Union of Theater Actors of Ukraine) expressing support for Ukrainian theatergoers who defend their freedom and resist Russian military aggression.

Sir Cameron Anthony Mackintosh was named the most successful and influential theater producer in the world by the New York Times back in 1990. Sir Mackintosh himself is the producer of such legendary and super-box office musicals as “The Phantom of the Opera”, “Cats”, “Hamilton”, “Saigon” and “The Forsaken”. Back in 2003, Deily Telegrapf ranked Sir Mackintosh seventh in the list of the 100 most influential people in British culture. The commercial performance of only one of his famous musicals – “The Phantom of the Opera” by composer Andrew Lloyd Weber – surpassed the record commercial results of even such box office hits as “Titanic” and “Alien”.

In dozens of different theatrical projects on different theatrical stages in Britain and the United States under the direction of Sir Mackintosh, there have always been many Ukrainian specialists, whom the influential producer notes for his professionalism and creativity. Therefore, from the first day of the Russian attack on Ukraine, Sir Mackintosh has been closely following the events in our country and the heroic struggle of the Ukrainian people against the invaders. The producer was recently stunned by information from Ukraine about the death of a young charismatic Ukrainian actor Pasha Lee, who fought against the enemy on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital.

Through his Ukrainian colleague, the famous theater producer Oksana Nemchuk (Kyiv), Cameron Anthony Mackintosh sent a letter of support to all Ukrainian theatergoers who today defend the Motherland and its freedom (the letter is addressed to the most influential theater organization in Ukraine – the National Union of Theater Actors). Among his Ukrainian colleagues and business partners, the British producer is interested in the pre-war creative search for Ukrainian national theaters. And receives information about the modern rethinking of Ukrainian national classics on the stage of the Kiev National Theater named after Ivan Franko and the current theatrical experiments of Ukrainians in the works of the great Shakespeare (experimental Shakespearean diptych in the Ivano-Frankivsk National Theater named after Ivan Franko).

The outstanding producer hopes to revive creative contacts with the Ukrainian theatrical community in peacetime and writes in his letter to Ukrainians about this: “We can no longer wait for tomorrow!” If he knew how millions of Ukrainians are waiting for such a peaceful tomorrow …

ZN.UA has a full version of the text of the letter of the most influential British theater producer addressed to the National Union of Theater Actors of Ukraine.

“Everyone from Les Misérables at Sondheim Theater London and the UK National Touring Company send their love and support to the people of Ukraine and our fellow theatergoers defending Kyiv and their homeland, where actor Pasha Lee has just tragically died. Died of chaotic shelling. Victor Hugo's novel has always defended the freedom and survival of the human spirit, and the songs of Les Mis have long been anthems of freedom against injustice and repression around the world. A number of outstanding international productions created and staged by Ukrainian talents took place in my theaters.

As we all watch in bewilderment from behind the barricade and see the Ukrainian people courageously enter the struggle that will give you the right to be free, we fervently pray that this barbaric and unforgivably insane attempt to suppress the people's spirit fails – we can't wait for tomorrow. ” Wrote Sir Mackintosh.
