The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the EU and the G7 to introduce sanctions against Rosatom for the annexation of the ZNPP

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs demands the protection of citizens of Ukraine who work at the station.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on the decree of the President of the Russian Federation on Russia's appropriation of Zaporizhzhya NPP.

“We strongly condemn this crime, which further increases the risks and threats in the field of nuclear security caused by the Russian occupation of the ZNPP. We call on all states to adhere to a consistent position in ensuring mandatory political, economic and legal consequences for the terrorist state for all its criminal and illegal actions,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.

The ministry offered the EU, the G7 states and other partners to urgently consider the introduction of sanctions against the Russian state corporation Rosatom, as well as its affiliated companies and institutions, and other key factors of Russia's nuclear energy industry.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on IAEA member states to limit cooperation in the framework of any projects with Russia, which is resorting to open nuclear blackmail of the whole world.

“We warn citizens of Russia who will carry out criminal orders to assign the object of the civilian nuclear infrastructure of Ukraine, on criminal liability for their illegal actions and the irreversibility of punishment,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said and added that they demand the Russian side to ensure the safety and integrity of Ukrainian citizens who continue to perform critical functions of the nuclear power plant.

The President of the Russian Federation signed this “decree” on the basis of the so-called law on the “admission of the Zaporizhia region to the Russian Federation”. Previously, the head of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi officially recognized such documents as worthless.
