The Kremlin wants to destroy Ukraine, we will never allow this to happen – Von der Leyen

The President of the European Commission called the reconstruction of Ukraine a generational task.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen within The high-level conference on the restoration of Ukraine in Lugano stated that Russia sees the destruction of Ukraine as its main goal, but the European Union will never allow this.

“The Kremlin's goal is military, political, and economic destruction of Ukraine. They want to undermine the existence of Ukraine as a state. We cannot and will never allow this to happen,” she said during her speech.

Ursula von der Leyen noted that since the beginning of the war, the EU has mobilized about 6.2 billion euros of financial support for Ukraine, and promised that this is not the limit “and there will be even more”.

The President of the European Commission noted that in Lugano there will be the basic principles that will become “the first block of principles that will guide our path, will become the basis for restoring and reconstructing Ukraine”.

She said that although the bombs are still falling, nothing is impossible for the people of Ukraine: the country's administration continues to work, Ukraine is a digital leader with the most modern electronic governance, there are successes in the process of decentralization, and reforms are being implemented.

“Reforms should go hand in hand with investments on the way to the European Union. We have already offered the Ukrainian government a platform to manage the reconstruction – bringing together all partners. Ukraine will be among the leaders. The platform will form strategic orientations and priorities. In the spotlight: promising reconstruction implemented in proper management. Because our action will be based on the aspirations and wishes of the Ukrainian people,” said Ursula von der Leyen.

The President of the European Commission noted that the reconstruction of Ukraine is a task of generations.

“Ukrainian youth give their lives to turn their vision into reality. They are fighting for a free and independent Ukraine. They are fighting for respect for international law and our values. We know that their battle is also our battle. And while we work these days to help Ukraine win this war, we must also ensure that Ukraine wins. And it will be for sure. Glory to Ukraine,” she concluded her speech.

We remind you, the first draft of the national recovery plan of Ukraine from the consequences of the war, created as a result of the work of 23 working groups, was presented by the National Council for Reconstruction on June 13. But then he was seen only by representatives of the special Advisory Council, who made a number of comments.

Previously, the President of UkraineVolodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine needed an analogue of the Marshall Plan.
