The government has allocated funding to support Russian prisoners

Funds are allocated from the reserve fund of the state budget.

The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated UAH 43.7 million for the implementation of measures to hold prisoners of war in camps and precincts for prisoners of war. This is stated in the order of the Cabinet of Ministers № 352-r of May 7, 2022.

The funds were sent to the Ministry of Finance from the reserve fund of the state budget.

“By December 30, 2022, submit to the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy and the State Treasury Service a report on the use of funds allocated under this order,” the document reads. >

It will be recalled that in March the Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk stated on Radio NV that the exact number of Russian prisoners was unknown.

” There is no exact number of [Russian prisoners] yet, because we are collecting [information] from everywhere. Some of them are located in the territory where the fighting is taking place and they are located in military units. Some of them are in jail. We have information only about those who are in the SBU or the penitentiary system, “she said.

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, nine exchanges have taken place more than 300 Ukrainians have returned from Russian captivity.
