The European Commission will issue debt securities to financially support Ukraine – Politico

The project aims to maintain the country's economic stability for the next three months.

The European Commission is developing a debt issuance plan designed to alleviate the economic and financial crisis in Ukraine in the short term. This was reported by Politico.

According to the source, the initiative and the timing of its implementation will be officially announced on May 18.

” The European Commission plans to issue new debt securities of the European Union to cover Ukraine's short-term financial needs over the next three months, estimated at 15 billion euros, “the article reads.

It will be recalled that, taking into account all necessary expenses, the International Monetary Fund and the Ukrainian government have agreed that Ukraine will need 5 billion euros a month for the next three months. This amount is needed to cover the budget deficit, ensure military spending, social benefits and save the economy.

It is unknown at this time how much the European Commission plans to allocate to the debt project, but Politico notes that non-EU countries may also join.
