Advance payments are designed to reduce budget expenditures to help Ukrainians.
The European Commission has made an advance payment of 3.5 billion euros to EU member states that accept Ukrainian refugees. This was announced by the Commissioner for Cohesion and Reform Eliza Ferreira.
“The EU is in solidarity with Ukraine and opposes Russia's invasion. Member States show their commitment to accepting people fleeing the war. Today we see another concrete result of our unity, the result of which is the mobilization of mutual funds where they are needed, “Ferreira said.
Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights Nicholas Schmidt said that people fleeing the war in Ukraine needed immediate support to restore a full life in a safe place. Through these advance payments, EU Member States can offer refugees food, housing, medical services, education, employment assistance and other essential services.
Advance payments for EU member states are primarily intended to reduce budget expenditures to help Ukrainian refugees.
