The EU may approve legislation to confiscate Russian assets in October

The European Union plans to adopt a directive in October that will allow confiscation of Russian assets frozen as a result of EU sanctions. This was announced by European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders at a press conference in Prague, writes European Truth.

“The European Parliament has already approved (the directive) and there is a consensus in the EU Council on this. So after the summer break we will approve it in the Council, so as I said, I will present the directive and the relevant legislation in October. So we are moving very quickly,” Reinders said.

According to the European Commissioner, the specified legislative act will expand the list of crimes at the level of the European Union.

Earlier, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen reported that Brussels is preparing a legal basis for the transfer of frozen Russian assets, in including the property of oligarchs, for the restoration of Ukraine after the end of hostilities.
