The Dutch Parliament supported the creation of a special tribunal for Russia in The Hague

The majority of deputies call on the country's government to actively study the possibility of creating a body.

The House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Netherlands on Thursday, October 20 , adopted a resolution in which it supported the creation of a special international tribunal for Russian officials responsible for starting the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine. This was reported by the MP from the D66 party Sjörd Sjördsma on Twitter and ZN.UA sources.

In the document, the representatives of the parliament called on the government of their country to actively speak at the level of the European Union and the United Nations for the possibility of creating such a body and consider the option of placing it in The Hague.

“The majority of the Dutch parliament is in favor of creating a special tribunal to consider the case of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. We can and must bring Putin to justice,” Sjoordsma emphasized.

Although the resolution is of a recommendatory nature, it is an important guideline for the Dutch government in the matter of policy development in this area.

A day earlier, rtlnieuws reported that the relevant proposal D66 is supported by the House of Representatives of the Dutch Parliament.

According to Sjörd Sjördsma, it is very important that Russian President Vladimir Putin, “who is behind this terrible war”, does not go unpunished for his actions. The House of Representatives also talked about the trial of the henchmen of the Kremlin chairman.

The deputy believes that a separate special tribunal is needed for the future prosecution of the Russian president, which he called “Putin's”. He clarified that the implementation of such a process through the International Criminal Court is currently legally impossible.

The D66 party believes that The Hague could become a logical location for such a body in the future. After all, that is where the ICC works, and other tribunals have also successfully operated.
