Marsha Blackburn arrived in the capital of Taiwan aboard a US military aircraft. As reported in Blackburn's office, she was met at the airport by Douglas Hsu, Director General of Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Taiwan is our strongest partner in the Indo-Pacific region. Regular high-level visits to Taipei are long-standing US policy. “Communist China will not make me turn my back on the island,” Blackburn said in a statement. that Blackburn will meet President Tsai Ing-wen as well as senior security official Wellington Ku and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu during the trip, which runs until Saturday.

“The two sides will exchange views on Taiwan-US security issues, as well as economic and trade relations,” the ministry added.

Taiwan's presidential office said Tsai will meet with Blackburn on Friday morning.

China has already reacted to the senator's visit. A spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington Liu Penghui promised that Beijing would take “resolute countermeasures” in response to what he called “provocations” by the United States.

“This visit once again proves that that the US does not want to see stability in the Taiwan Strait and spares no effort to incite confrontation between the two sides and interfere in China's internal affairs,” Liu said in a statement.
