Sugar, oil and eggs: should we expect a shortage of these products and an increase in prices

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy assures that there will be enough products for Ukrainians.

There will be no shortage of products in Ukraine: oil, there will be plenty of sugar and eggs, and there is no reason for their significant price increase. Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Markiyan Dmytrasevich emphasized this on the air of the national telethon.

“We are an agrarian country and a net exporter of agricultural products, so we will definitely satisfy our internal needs in full. Product pricing processes will be affected by general inflation, the cost of energy and logistics,” he explained.

According to the official, in November, Ukrainians will see a certain stabilization of food prices.

This year, farmers have already collected 2.6 million tons of sunflower seeds, it is expected that a total of 9.5 million tons will be collected.

“This is less compared to the previous year, which was a record and brought 16.3 million tons of sunflower. The reasons for such a decrease are clear: the war and weather conditions, which slowed down the pace of collection,” said Dmytrasevich.

However, according to him, it is more than enough for internal needs. Therefore, if the price of oil will increase, it will be at the expense of general inflation and the increase in the cost of logistics, but not because of a shortage of raw materials.

The same applies to the price of sugar. Despite the fact that farmers sowed 180,000 hectares this year, instead of 224,000 as last year, at least one million tons of sugar will be produced from this year's harvest. That is, it will definitely not be a deficit and will not significantly increase in price.

The official also promised that egg prices will soon equalize. He said that the price increase is connected with the destruction of poultry farms and the lack of livestock.
