Scotland – Ukraine: announcement of the play-off match of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers

The national team will play its first official match since the beginning of the war.

Wednesday, July 1, The national team of Ukraine will play a match in Glasgow against Scotland in the semifinals of the playoffs for the 2022 World Cup.

ZN.UA will host an online broadcast of the match Scotland – Ukraine.

The match was supposed to take place on March 24, but due to Russia's military invasion, all Ukrainian football was paused. As a result, the national team of Ukraine left for the training camp in Slovenia, and the game was postponed.

During the training, the Ukrainians played a number of friendly matches. Oleksandr Petrakov's wards beat Borussia Monchengladbach (2: 1) and Empoli (3: 1), after which they parted ways with Rijeka (1: 1).

These meetings hardly allowed the players from the Ukrainian championship to get in optimal shape, which may be the main problem for our team. At the same time, a number of players arrived in tune with the European Championships. Alexander Zinchenko, Andriy Yarmolenko, Ruslan Malinovsky and others spent full seasons. It is extremely difficult to predict the starting lineup of the Ukrainian national team under such conditions. Since then, the World Cup qualifiers for our team have failed.

In the last selection, Ukraine took second place in Group D after France. The Ukrainian national team scored 12 points and never lost, but six draws out of eight did not allow to claim victory in the group.

Scotland – Ukraine: prediction of bookmakers < Scotland has not played in the 1998 World Cup. The British team took second place in qualifying group F. In the fourth round, the Scots lost to Denmark (0: 2), after which they won six consecutive victories, taking revenge on the same Danes (2: 0) in the last round.

Many of Ukraine's rivals represent the English Championship. Of particular note are Robertson of Liverpool and McTomney, who play for Manchester United. Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney was not included in the bid due to injury – this is the main loss for Scotland.

The winner of the pair will meet Wales on June 5 in Cardiff. If the Ukrainian national team can beat Scotland and Wales, it will play in Group B with the teams of England, the USA and Iran at the World Cup in Qatar.
