The damage to Ukraine reached about a trillion dollars, and the loss of GDP – 35%.

Шмигаль оценил общий ущерб от войны с учетом будущих периодов

The Ukrainian economy has shrunk by at least 35% in a month of full-scale war with Russia, with total losses reaching $ 1 trillion in future periods. This was announced by Prime Minister Denis Shmigal in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

“We see that now, when the hostilities are taking place, the first shock since the beginning of the war has not passed, according to our estimates, it fluctuates by 35% (loss of GDP – ed.) And a little higher,” he said.

Schmigal noted that the fighting is taking place in 10 regions, where enterprises are located, which accounted for about 50% of GDP.

According to him, in the near future the development of the economy will depend on how quickly business will resume, how quickly the export industries will be oriented, where there is a reorientation of maritime supplies to rail through Eastern Europe.

At the same time, Ukraine's losses from Russia's full-scale military aggression, taking into account both the infrastructure and economic damage already caused, and future losses in the coming years, exceed $ 1 trillion.

The amount consists of three parts:

  • Direct infrastructural damage, ie destroyed bridges, roads, housing, buildings. This estimate is now about $ 120 billion, and more than $ 270 billion, including military infrastructure and other civilian expenditures;
  • Calculation of losses of the Ukrainian economy, that is, the fall in GDP per month, when the fighting continues. These are lost profits and uninvested investments valued at $ 290 billion;
  • Losses resulting from the reduction of GDP in the future relative to pre-war plans, because the enterprises that bring income to the state are destroyed.
