Russia will stop supplying electricity to Finland

In Finland, it is believed that the solution does not threaten users.

RAO Nordic, a subsidiary Russia's Inter RAO will cut off electricity supplies to Finland on May 14. This was reported by its press service and the NRK. They clarified that “the situation is exceptional and happened for the first time in more than 20 years.” The aggressor's company also expressed “hope that the situation will be resolved soon and electricity trade with Russia will resume.”

However, Nord Pool has assured that it always pays for electricity supplies with its partners.

At the same time, the Finnish electricity operator Fingrid stressed that the solution does not threaten to disrupt electricity supply to the population. According to the company, Finland has recently imported from Russia only about 10% of total consumption in the country, which can compensate.

“The lack of imports of electricity from Russia will be compensated by imports of more electricity from Sweden and electricity bill in Finland, “Fingrid explained.

NRK links the suspension of electricity supply to Finland with the country's decision to apply for NATO membership.

> Russia has warned Finland about “retaliatory measures” over plans to join the Alliance.

Earlier, Russia threatened Sweden and Finland with “consequences” in the event of NATO membership. Moscow is reacting nervously to this prospect of Alliance enlargement. But will Russia open a “second front” in the Baltic Sea? This is stated in the article by Alina Gritsenko “Sweden on the way to NATO: what will Russia respond to?” .
