Russia suspends gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria

All because of the refusal to pay for fuel in rubles.

The Russian Federation will stop exporting gas to Poland and Bulgaria by the end of this month. Despite the current agreements, Russian suppliers have announced that they will stop cooperating with buyer countries on April 27.

Polish state oil and gas company PGNiG has published a statement on its website stating that on April 26, the Russian monopolist Gazprom sent an official letter announcing the cessation of gas supplies to Poland due to a refusal to pay for fuel in rubles. Representatives of PGNiG consider this act as a violation of the current contract, which is valid until the end of 2022.

According to Nova, a similar message was sent to the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy. It was also announced that Russia will stop exporting gas to the country on April 27. However, the Bulgarian government stressed that it was preparing for a similar scenario and worked out in advance mechanisms for alternative sources of fuel supply.
