In Turkey, they believe that there can be no compromise on issues related to the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Требования России по Крыму и Донбассу невыполнимы - пресс-секретарь Эрдогана

Recognition of the annexation of Crimea and the independence of Donbass is almost a cornerstone in the negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia. Russia's demands are quite ambitious and “unrealistic,” said Ibrahim Kalin, a spokesman for the Turkish president. In an interview with CNN, he shared his vision of the negotiation process between the countries.

Recognition of Crimea as Russian has been on Russia's agenda for 8 years, but Ibrahim Kalin sees no room for compromise on this issue.

“These are red lines for Ukrainians in Crimea and Donbas, and rightly so, because they directly affect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. We did not recognize the annexation of Crimea, like the rest of the world, even China did not recognize the annexation of Crimea. we need to come up with some other ideas, ”said a spokesman on the sidelines of the Doha Forum 2022.

Turkey was one of the first countries to offer to mediate in the negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia. With the assistance of the Turkish side, a meeting was held in Istanbul on March 10 at the level of foreign ministers. The next round of talks between the Ukrainian and Russian delegations will also take place in Turkey on March 29-31.

Turkish President Erdogan has expressed hope that the parties will agree on problematic issues to make Zelensky's meeting with Putin possible.

“President Zelensky is ready to meet with President Putin, President Putin is not yet. And our president said: I am ready to help you meet, in Turkey or somewhere … We believe that only thanks to this meeting will the war end.” , – Ibrahim Kalin emphasized.

President Erdogan is constantly in touch with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts and is working hard to end the ceasefire. Asked if Putin was listening to Erdogan, the spokesman said that “they have a long-standing relationship.” According to him, the President of the Russian Federation does not trust the vast majority of NATO countries and does not want to have a dialogue with them. However, communication with the Russian side is simply necessary and desirable for those whom they trust.

“Otherwise, this war can last for months, years, and the world cannot afford another such protracted war, and, of course, we cannot afford another cold war,” Ibrahim Kalin concluded.
