Russia's appeasement policy led to the genocide of Ukrainians — Estonian Foreign Ministry

Urmas Reinsalou urged European allies not to be afraid of Putin's threats and to continue helping Ukraine.

Russia's constant nuclear threats, with which it intimidates not only Ukraine, but also other European countries, should not stand in the way of support for Kyiv from the international community. The fear and appeasement policy of the aggressor before the war and at its initial stage led to the genocide of Ukrainians. This opinion was expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Urmas Reinsalu in a comment for CNN.

According to the politician, Europeans should not be afraid after everything that the Ukrainians have experienced, who bravely continue to defend their land, no matter what.

“Where did all the appeasement policies that we may have used in some cases to avoid escalation get us? Before this genocidal type of war. And now I think we shouldn't be afraid of what else might happen. For the sake of humanity, for the sake of our own security in Europe, we must act,” Reinsalou said.

He emphasized the need to provide Ukraine with modern air defense systems that will allow it to defend against cynical Russian attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure facilities. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia emphasized that this should be done before the onset of winter.
