One third of Ukraine's Ukrainian fields will remain unsown this year

The main reasons are mines and military action.

About a third of Ukrainian agricultural lands this year will not be sown due to high risk of mine explosions and hostilities in certain regions, said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

“Up to 30% of agricultural fields in Ukraine this year will not be used for planting wheat, barley, sunflower and corn, “the statement said.

According to UN forecasts, the ongoing hostilities could provoke a global food catastrophe, as 36 of the 55 countries with food crises depended on Ukraine and Russian exports.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said 1/5 of humanity will suffer from hunger due to the war in Ukraine. In response, Deputy Minister of Economy – Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka said that the main reason for food shortages is the blockade of our ports and trade in the Black Sea by Russian warships.
