NASA satellite images have established how much of Ukraine's agricultural land was seized by the Russian invaders

About 22% of agricultural land is in the occupied territory.

Under the control of Russian troops as of July 1 was about 22% of agricultural land in Ukraine. This is evidenced by the NASA Harvest satellite images, the NASA Earth Observatory reports.

It is noted that the data were taken from the Planet Labs satellites and the Sentinel-2 mission of the European Space Agency. At the same time, it became clear that the fields on which 28% of winter crops and 18% of spring crops (including corn and sunflower) were sown are under occupation. In addition, some fields are already unfit for use due to damage by shells and mines.

NASA Harvest program director Inbal Becker-Reshef commented on the situation: “Before the war, Ukraine provided 46% of the world's sunflower oil exports, 9% of wheat exports, 17% of barley and 12% of corn on world markets, according to USDA data.(Ukraine and Russia together account for 73% of sunflower oil exports, 33% of wheat and 27% of barley.) The last few months have significantly disrupted that flow of food”.
