Luxembourg blocked assets of the Russian Federation in the amount of 5.5 billion euros

This is a third of all frozen assets of the Russian Federation in Europe.

Since the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, European countries have introduced a number of economic sanctions against the aggressor country. In particular, they blocked the accounts of individuals and legal entities from the Russian Federation, and also significantly limited the activities of local banks. One of the leading states in this regard is Luxembourg, which froze the assets of Russians worth 5.5 billion euros. This is reported by APA.

According to the source, on November 8, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, during his speech in the parliament, announced that a third of all blocked Russian assets of Russians in Europe belong to his country.

“Out of the total amount of assets of Russian individuals and legal entities frozen in the EU, about a third is blocked in Luxembourg. 5.5 billion of the 17 billion euros of Russian assets were frozen in Luxembourg as a result of EU sanctions after the attack on Ukraine,” the diplomat said.

Asselborn emphasized that in the event continued aggression on the part of the Russian Federation, sanctions against it will only increase. He stressed the importance of the EU not jeopardizing its current unity. According to the minister, statements about the so-called neutrality regarding Russia's war against Ukraine are now inadmissible.
