Lebanon refused Ukrainian grain – the reason was given in the embassy

Razoni shipper is looking for a new buyer in Lebanon or elsewhere.

The buyer in Lebanon refused the Ukrainian of corn, which was loaded on the first ship that left the Ukrainian Black Sea port after concluding an agreement on the resumption of exports, explained the refusal by a five-month delay. This was reported in the Embassy of Ukraine in Beirut.

According to the embassy, the Razoni shipper is looking for a new buyer in Lebanon or elsewhere. Its destination changed on Sunday from Tripoli to “free for order”, vessel tracking data showed.

A spokeswoman for Lebanon's economy ministry said the government had nothing to do with the cargo as it was destined for the private sector.

The United Nations, which helped broker the grain export deal, also does not interfere in where ships departing from Ukraine go “because these are commercial decisions,” a spokesman for the secretary-general said at a briefing on Monday.

At the same time, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine reported that another ship with Ukrainian corn reached its final destination in Turkey. Two more should reach their ports in about a week. In total, about 10 ships have already left the ports.

We remind you that a week ago Lebanon arrested a ship loaded with barley and wheat flour until it is found out whether this cargo was stolen from Ukraine, or not.

However, in a few days the arrest was unexpectedly lifted. Despite the evidence provided, the court did not take into account the position of the competent authorities of Ukraine.

Let us also remind you that at the end of July Reuters reported that Egypt canceled contracts for the supply of 240 thousand tons of Ukrainian grain . Apparently, Russia's war in Ukraine hindered the export of grain, so in July the Egyptian state company decided to terminate the contracts.
