Jean-Luc Godard committed assisted suicide – mass media

The French director decided to die of his own free will.

French-Swiss director Jean- Luc Godard committed an assisted suicide, Liberation reports with reference to a relative of the film actor. This type of suicide is allowed in Switzerland, it differs from euthanasia in that the patient himself takes the medicine prescribed by the doctor.

“He was not at death, he was just tortured. So he decided to stop it. It was his decision, and it was important for him to know about it,” an unnamed relative of the director told Liberation. This information was confirmed to the publication by another source.

In 2014, the director told in one of the interviews that who is thinking about assisted suicide. At the time, he admitted that he asked doctors and a lawyer if they could prescribe him morphine or barbiturates, but none of them “answered favorably”.

Godard is one of the founders of the French “New Wave . This is a direction in cinematography that arose in the 1950s and 60s. The film “On the Last Breath”, starring Jean-Paul Belmondo, is called a kind of manifesto of this direction. During his career, he made more than 100 films.
