The Ukrainian Witness project posted a video on its YouTube channel with its founder Vitaly Daynega, who spoke about people who decided not to leave Kyiv to save the lives of dogs, cats and squirrels. Since the beginning of the war, people have been forced to evacuate from many hotspots. But the fighting affected not only people but also their pets.

There were cases when people carried a huge shepherd in their arms for several kilometers. But it also happens that people are forced to leave animals in hot spots due to circumstances.

“The most popular veterinary service during the first two days of the war was euthanasia. It was a kind of horror…, ”said veterinarian Pavel Lyulko. He also said that now the biggest problem of veterinary clinics and shelters is the reduction in the number of employees. Many people left, leaving not only their homes but also their jobs.

Today, veterinarians and shelter workers have added work. They take care of abandoned animals every day, take care of their health and safety, and save pets that are under lock and key. Animals, which are taken from empty apartments and houses, are placed in a shelter until a calmer time comes.
