Hungary is still dissatisfied with EU proposals for sanctions on Russian oil

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Siarto stated that the EU's proposals on sanctions against “Russian oil” are still unacceptable, Interfax-Ukraine reports. According to him, such proposals, if adopted, would allegedly have devastating consequences for the Hungarian economy.

In particular, Siarto claims that such sanctions will destroy the Hungarian economy. According to the Hungarian Foreign Minister, the European Union has not yet offered any solution to the problems that will arise in Hungary if such restrictive measures are taken.

The EU is against Russian oil only if it does not concern oil pipelines. At the same time, in its current form, according to Siarto, proposals for sanctions are still unacceptable for Hungary.

Recall, 27 EU ambassadors met on Sunday, May 8 to discuss the sixth package of sanctions . The meeting ended in failure, and talks are expected to resume in the coming days.

In particular, Hungary continues to block the European Union's attempts to impose an embargo on Russian oil imports, delaying the entire sixth package of sanctions against Russia over Ukraine's war. . Slovakia and the Czech Republic also disagree with the terms of the oil embargo.

In addition, according to the Western press, Greece and Hungary opposed the inclusion of Patriarch Kirill in the list of sanctions. Greece and Cyprus are also opposed to a ban on the transportation of Russian oil by European tankers.

However, according to media reports, the next day the European Union decided to ease its package of sanctions on Russian oil exports .
