How to issue a car with foreign registration during martial law – an explanation of customs officers

It has become easier to import a car on the “Eurobus”.

Law on Preferential Imports and exemption from taxation of imports of vehicles of citizens of Ukraine during the war came into force on April 5. The State Customs Service has published an explanation of the new rules for the transportation of foreign-registered cars across the border.

Earlier, citizens had to pay excise tax, customs duties and VAT to import foreign-registered cars to Ukraine. During the war, these payments were temporarily abolished for citizens who import vehicles.

These include cars such as:

  • cars and their bodies;
  • semi-trailers and trailers;
  • trucks and vehicles designed to carry goods and more than 10 people;
  • motorcycles

What As for the procedure for registration of a car, it remains in force until the adoption of the relevant simplifications.

Among other innovations of the recently adopted law – when registering a car with foreign registration, payment for customs formalities by customs authorities outside the location customs authorities or not working during the working hours of the persons concerned.

In general, Ukrainians only need to pay fees for the first registration of the car and its certification.

At the same time, simplifications do not apply to cars from Russia , Belarus and the temporarily occupied territories.

After the end of martial law, citizens are not you will have to pay extra for the payments from which they are currently exempt. The law does not provide for postponements.
