"He was shocked by what was happening": Ukrainian Olympic champion told about a conversation with a Russian athlete

PyeongChang Olympic Champion 2018 and silver medalist of the Beijing 2022 Olympics Alexander Abramenko spoke about communication with Russian athletes during the war.

“Russian freestyler Burov wrote to me, asked what was happening here, I told him everything as it is. He was shocked by what I told him, because they are shown a completely different picture on TV. I think that all Russian athletes are silent about the situation in Ukraine, either they believe in the propaganda that they have on television, or they are afraid of responsibility for their statements on this topic, “Abramenko said.

We will remind, on February 24 the president of the Russian Federation Putin made the urgent statement on carrying out special military operation in the territory of Ukraine, having begun large-scale invasion of the Ukrainian cities.

Abramenko won a silver medal in ski acrobatics at the 2022 Olympics in February. Russian Burov won a bronze medal in Beijing.

Abramenko is the only man in the history of Ukraine who managed to win awards at two Winter Games. In PyeongChan 2018, the Ukrainian became the champion.
