Germany is ready to become a security guarantor for Ukraine – Scholz

Probably, there will still be a question of automatic military assistance in the event of an attack on our country.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed that Germany is ready to become one of the signatories of security guarantees for Ukraine. His words during a speech in the Bundestag were quoted by the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung.

According to the chancellor, the relevant document is already being discussed within the framework of the meetings of the Big Seven.

Sholz added that security guarantees can be analogous to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty on Collective Defense of NATO. This refers primarily to the clause on automatic military assistance in the event of an attack on Ukraine. The chancellor noted that, most likely, the document will be adapted to the “specific situation”.
