Fraudsters have intensified attempts to deceive Ukrainians – the National Bank

Fraud scenarios have changed with the war in Ukraine.

National Bank warns Ukrainians that fraudsters have intensified their attempts to deceive the citizens of Ukraine. The NBU noted that at present we can identify the four most common types of fraud, which appeared during the war.

It is noted that the main scenarios of scammers are:

  • < fake rent or evacuation announcements.

Scammers offer rented accommodation in safe areas or transportation from hot spots to safe places. They ask you to make a prepayment on the card, and after receiving the funds they disappear.

  • Fake SMS-mailings about financial assistance within eSupport.

Fraudsters send SMS-messages about financial aid with the text: “Vam narahovano Groshova dopomoga PB24 6500. Zarahuvatu…” and then there is a link (you can not follow it!).

  • Fake collection funds for assistance.

Fraudsters make fake advertisements to raise money for the treatment of children who allegedly suffered from military aggression, using photos from the Internet. Or they create phishing (fraudulent) sites that are similar to the sites of real charitable foundations, where it is possible to transfer funds to support the Armed Forces. They also hack social media pages and raise money for ammunition on behalf of the owners, as if in connection with going to the front.

  • Fake ads for the sale of military ammunition.

Fraudsters place ads on the Internet for the sale of body armor and other military goods. After receiving a prepayment, swindlers disappear. Or, worse, they sell defective bulletproof vests that do not protect fighters from bullets.

The NBU reminded that it is possible to be more aware of fraud.

How to protect yourself from fraudsters in wartime, read on the NBU website.
