Foreign Ministry: “We hope that after the elections Budapest will reconsider its approach to helping Ukraine”

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also responded that the Hungarian prime minister had included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in his list of opponents.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine hopes that Budapest will reconsider its approach to assistance to our state after the parliamentary elections, the Foreign Ministry said. At the same time, the diplomatic mission noted that the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán has no reason to call the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky his opponent.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine respects the will of the Hungarian people in the parliamentary elections. At the same time, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has no reason to say that he had to fight the President of Ukraine on his way to victory in the election. First, neither Ukraine nor its president, Volodymyr Zelensky, took part in a political campaign in Hungary. Secondly, the President of Ukraine is busy every day with a much more important matter – the fight against Russian aggression, “the Foreign Ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry added that Prime Minister Orban should be grateful to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the fact that the reality of the war did not reach Hungary's borders due to the heroism of the Ukrainian people in deterring Putin's aggressive actions.

“We hope that the new mandate will allow the Hungarian government, among other priorities, to focus on countering the aggressive policy of the Russian president, who ordered the Russian army to commit atrocities against the Ukrainian people, and the facts of Russian war crimes against civilians in Bucha, Irpin and Gostomel, will not go unnoticed. We hope that Budapest will clearly condemn these crimes and reconsider its approach to helping Ukraine in line with current realities, the level of security threat from Russia and the level of atrocities committed by the Russian army, “the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry added.

< The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that without security in Ukraine there will be no security in Hungary.

“Our state is the homeland of Ukrainian Hungarians, who are an integral part of Ukrainian society and whose identity we highly value. We must work together to bring victory over Russia's evil closer to restoring peace for the sake of Ukraine, Hungary and other European nations, “the Foreign Ministry added.
