Erdogan was told that some Western countries want to “take revenge on the Russian Federation by using Ukraine”

During a meeting with colleagues from United Russia, a deputy of the ruling party of Turkey said that Ankara knows a solution that will satisfy the interests of both sides in the war.

From the very beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Turkey has been trying to balance between its own interests and the EU's position towards the aggressor country. Despite active assistance in reaching the “grain agreement”, Ankara still makes ambiguous statements about the war. In particular, they believe that some Western countries are trying to “get even with Russia by using Ukraine,” and this prevents the parties from reaching the most favorable solution “that will suit everyone.” This is exactly the opinion expressed by the deputy from the ruling Justice and Development Party of Turkey Murat Baybatur, writes Takvim.

Baybatur, who heads the interparliamentary friendship group “Turkey – Russia”, said at a meeting with representatives of the “United Russia” party that the government of his country does not share the position of some Western partners regarding sanctions against the Russian Federation and considers them “the biggest obstacle in achieving the maximum potential between the two countries”.

“We consider it incorrect that some Western countries seek to get even with Russia because of the situation that arose in Ukraine. We tell our Western colleagues about it. We believe that it is possible to reach a solution that will ensure the territorial integrity of Ukraine and at the same time take into account Russia's security concerns,” Baibatur said.

The deputy of the party of the acting president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, emphasized that Ankara will continue to develop relations with Moscow, “despite all the difficulties”.

Russian-Turkish relations have always been built on mutual distrust and mutual interests. In recent months, both the first and the second have become much more. The best evidence of this is the interdependence of the “partners” in the Ukrainian and Syrian issues, which were also discussed in Sochi at the meeting between Presidents Putin and Erdogan. Its consequences are discussed in Yevgenia Haber's article “Meeting between Putin and Erdogan: is there a danger for Ukraine”.
