Coalition of Ukrainian human rights activists receives award for documenting Russia's war crimes in Ukraine

The goal of the coalition is to protect the victims of Russian armed aggression in Ukraine and to bring to justice the top leadership of the Russian Federation and the direct perpetrators of war crimes.

The Coalition of Human Rights Organizations Ukraine.5am (“Ukraine. Five in the Morning”) received the Open Society Award from the Central European University – for collecting and documenting war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the Russian armed aggression in Ukraine.

This was announced by Gunduz Mammadov, an expert in international criminal law, Candidate of Law, Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine in 2019-2021, Prosecutor of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (2016-2019). p>

“Today, the Ukraine.5am coalition received the Open Society Award from the Central European University CEU for its work on documenting international crimes committed on the territory of #Ukraine in the context of Russia's armed aggression,” he said.

It will be recalled that the coalition's goal is to protect the victims of Russian armed aggression in Ukraine and bring to justice the top leadership of the Russian Federation and the direct perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Coalition activities:

  • Documentation of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the Russian armed aggression against Ukraine.
  • Informing the public in Ukraine and abroad about the most serious crimes during the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
  • Protecting the victims of the Russian-Ukrainian war through the use of national and international justice mechanisms.
  • Ensuring effective coordinated cooperation of national and international non-governmental organizations on justice processes.
  • Promoting the creation of special mechanisms to bring the top authorities to justice. Of the Russian Federation for commission of a crime of aggression against Ukraine.

The coalition began work on February 25, 2022, the day after a new stage of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine. It is constantly joined by organizations, many of which have extensive experience in documenting international crimes, human rights violations committed since 2014 in the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, in Sevastopol, in the occupied parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
