By blocking Ukrainian ports, Russia is deliberately waging a “grain war” – the German Foreign Ministry

According to Minister Burbock, this is how Russia is preparing the ground for weakening international cooperation.

Russia blocks grain exports from Ukrainian ports to provoke the global food crisis, said German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock at a meeting of G7 foreign ministers, reports Bild .

Burbock directly accused Russia of waging a “grain war.” She believes that the Russian government is deliberately trying to increase the consequences of the war in Ukraine, spreading them to Africa.

“We should not be naive “- emphasizes Burbock. According to her, the fact that Russia is blocking ports in Ukraine, as a result of which grain cannot be exported, is “not just a collateral damage from the war”: thus the aggressor is preparing the ground to deliberately weaken international cooperation.

Due to the Russian ports blocked by Russia in the Black Sea, the world was left without huge supplies of agricultural products from Ukraine. According to the US Department of Agriculture, Ukraine is one of the world's five largest exporters of various key agricultural products, including corn, wheat and barley. It is also a leading exporter of oil and meal. In 2021, agricultural products accounted for 41% of Ukraine's total exports.

About 4.5 million tons of grain remain blocked in Ukrainian ports. The situation affects the countries of the Middle East and Africa , where cheap bread from Ukraine is one of the ways to survive.

< p> According to the head of the UN World Food Program David Beasley, if the ports do not work within 60 days, the Ukrainian economy is threatened with collapse.
