Bulgaria plans to increase gas supplies from Azerbaijan

Prime Minister of Bulgaria < strong>Kyril Petkov will visit Azerbaijan in the near future to reach an agreement on increasing the supply of Azerbaijani gas – reports the Report news agency.

“Strategic partnership between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan will continue to actively develop, focusing on the expansion of energy and transport links between the two countries,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

“Bulgaria and Azerbaijan are important partners for diversifying natural gas supplies and improving energy security in the South and Southeast Europe”, – added Kyril Petkov.

Bulgaria is one of the three countries of the European Union that buys Azerbaijani blue fuel. Earlier, the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov said that in 2022 gas supply to Bulgaria will be 600 million cubic meters (for the first half of 2022 – 160 million cubic meters ).

The supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe – Italy, Greece and Bulgaria – began on December 31, 2020 through the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP). Due to the lack of an interconnector, the volume of gas supplies to Bulgaria was several times smaller than planned – 250-300 million cubic meters. m per year instead of 1 billion cubic meters. m.

The Greece-Bulgaria interconnector, launched in July 2022, made it possible to increase the supply of gas from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria.
