Biden will come up with a name for the mission in Ukraine

This shows the seriousness and long-term support of Washington.

In the coming weeks, the Biden administration plans to name its military mission to support Ukraine. This is written by The Wall Street Journal.

In addition, the US will appoint a general who will lead this direction, and will also be responsible for training the Ukrainian military and coordinating aid.

The publication assumes that providing naming the operation would add weight to the operation and formally recognize the US mission. In particular, the journalists recalled how the Pentagon called the missions in Iraq and Afghanistan: “Operation “Iraqi Freedom”, “Operation “Enduring Freedom” and “Operation “Guardian of Freedom”.

This naming of operations means a lot: a certain bureaucracy means that the US is seriously aiming for long-term targeted funding. The participants of the operations are usually provided with a special salary, as well as various honors and awards.

As the newspaper writes, the general responsible for the as-yet-unnamed operation, who is planned to be chosen, “will have two or three stars”, that is, he can to become a military officer with the rank of major general or lieutenant general.

“This is different from the mostly temporary measures, within which military training and assistance were provided to Ukrainians in recent years,” the article says.

< p>As reported, on Ukraine's Independence Day Biden announced the largest military aid to Ukraine from the US in history – almost $3 billion.

This package of military aid will allow Ukraine to to secure a medium- and long-term defensive position.
