Berlin banned the use of symbols at events on May 8-9

Military songs or slogans that could justify or glorify the war in Ukraine have also been banned.

Berlin police published rules of conduct during on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the end of World War II. In order to avoid the instrumentalization of remembrance, the city banned the use of virtually any symbols that could serve this purpose. The relevant restrictions were published by law enforcement officers on their website.

These are the flags of both Russia and Ukraine, the uniforms of the countries participating in that war, as well as St. George's ribbons or symbols of this kind. In addition, military songs and slogans were banned, which, given the current situation, can justify or glorify the war in Ukraine.

“The act of remembrance and respect for these memorials must be preserved against the background of Russia's current war of aggression in Ukraine. The war must not be allowed to spread beyond democratic discourse in conflicts or disputes in Berlin, “the Berlin police website said.
