Belarus' most profitable industry after losing Ukrainian and European markets: refineries on the verge of collapse, warehouses full

“There is no profit, just to fuse …”. There is no hope for Russia. They hope for an end to the war and the return of the Ukrainian market.

Belarusian refineries are operating at half capacity and almost completely filled warehouses – companies are trying to escape repairs. This was reported by Euroradio with reference to sources.

“Oil refining, one of the most profitable industries in Belarus in 2021, has traditionally earned money by exporting to Europe and Ukraine. Sanctions and the position of the Belarusian authorities in the war against Ukraine have deprived Belarus of these markets,” the article reads.

According to the source, the load on enterprises is minimal. Thus, Naftan consumes 11,000 tons of oil per day, and the Mozyr refinery consumes 14,000 tons. For Mozyr, this is about 45% of the usual download.

Naftan supplies everything to the domestic market. Only petroleum coke to China, but there is no profit there to “fuse”. Coke is obtained from fuel oil, it saves from the accumulation of fuel oil and the shutdown of the enterprise.

“There are no sales. For 45% of the load, we (Mozyr Oil Refinery – ed.) Are just heating the sky. The warehouse is 97% full. So the repair is official. To ensure the domestic market, 15% of the load will be enough, even in Previously, 33% of our production worked in Ukraine, another 35% – in Europe. The rest – as it should be. The work is focused on extracting currency for the country. Now it does not work. It is unclear what will happen tomorrow, “- said the interlocutor at the Mozyr Oil Refinery. .

At the same time, employees of the Mozyr Oil Refinery are paid a 100% bonus. It is expected that there will be a quarterly award in early May, albeit belatedly.

currency to the country. Now we have to spend on the maintenance of enterprises. The problem can be solved only through exports, as the domestic market is very limited, “- says oil and gas columnist Tatiana Manyonok.

According to her, there are few options: sell oil products to Russia or try to sell to Europe under the guise of Russian.

At the same time, exports to Russia are unlikely – according to her, there is its own oil refining, which Belarusian producers are likely to lose price competition.

However, it is unknown how Under such conditions, the Belarusian authorities will be able to support the plants for a long time.

“Of course, the Belarusian authorities hoped that the war in Ukraine would end quickly, the Ukrainian market would reopen and the plants could operate. Now it is difficult to predict the future of Belarusian oil refining in the absence of real export markets, “Manyonok said.
