Amnesia, mutilated face, love and war: “Amadoka” by Sofia Andruhovich is published in Austria

Austria published a three-volume book by the writer Sofia Andruhovichabout a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, who loses his memory after a severe wound, and his face is unrecognizable due to his wounds. An abstract of the book and the possibility to purchase it have already appeared on the website of the local publishing house Residenz Verlag.

According to the plot, a woman comes across the main character in this state, who is convinced that he is her husband who disappeared at the front. She embarks on an almost futile attempt to revive his memory.

Other parts of the trilogy are devoted to the Holocaust and the Extermination of the Ukrainian intelligentsia in the 1920s and 1930s (Shooted Revival)

The title of the novel refers to the legendary Lake Amadoka, which, according to Herodotus, was located on the territory of present-day Ukraine. For centuries it was reproduced by cartographers, until suddenly it disappeared without a trace. “The largest lake in Europe that does not exist”.
