Ambassador Melnik named the German minister who gave Ukraine “several hours” after the Russian invasion

The German minister told the Ukrainian ambassador that there was no point in supplying us with weapons and disconnecting Russia from the SWIFT payment system.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andrei Melnik said that on the day of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine , among other things, he spoke with German Finance Minister Christian Lindner. It was the head of the German Ministry of Finance who said that Ukraine “had a few hours left,” Melnik said in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung .

Melnik said that Lindner sat in front of him with “such a polite smile” and talked as if the defeat of Ukraine was long overdue. Then the Minister of Finance of Germany told the Ukrainian ambassador that it was pointless to supply weapons or disconnect the Russian Federation from SWIFT.

Lindner's Free Democratic Party is a member of the European Alliance for Liberals and Democrats (ALDE).
