Almost 75% of Poles support sanctions on Russian oil and gas – Rzeczpospolita

“Do you think it is necessary to impose sanctions on energy resources (oil, gas, coal) from Russia?” – This question was asked to the participants of the SW Research survey conducted specifically for the national Polish publication.

The European Union is currently discussing its sixth a package of sanctions against Russia , which includes an oil embargo. Meanwhile, Hungary, heavily dependent on Russian oil, is protesting against the decision, but the Czech Republic and Slovakia have similar problems. In response, the EU proposed to impose an embargo on the import of energy resources for these countries later, writes Rzeczpospolita.

However, the situation in Europe with energy dependence is quite difficult – this is faced by Germany and Austria, which are highly dependent on Russian gas imports. Meanwhile, Poland and Bulgaria have already been cut off from Russian gas by a decision by Russia's Gazprom, which cut off supplies to both countries because it refused to pay for raw materials in rubles that Russia began demanding from “enemy states” after the war in Ukraine./p>

Kyiv calls for a full embargo on energy from Russia, Ukraine has repeatedly stressed during diplomatic talks with allies that Russia is financing the killings of Ukrainians with energy trade.

Despite rising energy and fuel prices, most Poles are in favor of sanctions

An embargo on energy imports from Russia is likely to raise prices. The Polish newspaper decided to conduct a poll on whether sanctions should be imposed, and 73 percent of respondents said yes.

“Sanctions against Russian raw materials are supported by men a little more often (75%) than by women (71%). The introduction of restrictions is supported by 4 out of 5 respondents from cities with a population of 200 thousand and more. Respondents aged 25-34 (64%) are less likely than others to support the idea, ”said Malgozata Bodzon, senior manager of the SW Research project. in the EU

As for the research methodology, it was conducted among users of the online panel SW Panel on May 10-11, 2022. The analysis covered a group of 800 Internet users aged 18 and over. The sample is representative of key demographic indicators.

It will be recalled that the other day EU diplomats predicted the date of signing the agreement on the oil embargo against Russia.
